It's such a beautiful tale of Shanghai and perfectly captures that so contemporary nostalgic longing of Chinese people for the past (a bit strange when you know that Shanghai has a semi-colonial past).
I like all the books from your list and have read some of them already. Especially to my female friends/acquaintances. I believe that author Jane Austen was a feminist, before feminism became a famous movement. Her female protagonists rebel against the norms, and make a niche for themselves in the hearts of male and female readers. Second to that (for those who don't much care for classics), is the recommendation for either "THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS" by Arundhati Roy or "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver.

I'd love for a chance to win/read "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield, since I've read almost all of the others, and it seems like it would be such an interesting book! :)

~Hira~
Email: Enamoredsoul(at)gmail(dot)com~Enamored Soul~https://www.blogger.com/profile/16480923281335495661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-158601836174551552.post-39958431215573849262011-06-28T18:22:40.667+01:002011-06-28T18:22:40.667+01:00Emma by Jane Austen
