Victorian Celebration Giveaway

Allie is hosting the wonderful Victorian Celebration for June and July over at her blog, A Literary Odyssey. Many reviews have been posted, so check out the master post to find a list of links to reviews.

I'm hosting an international giveaway today for participants of the Victorian Celebration. I will select one winner who may select one of the following books as their prize. I'll be giving away the Vintage Classics edition (as I am in love with the covers). Here is the selection, based on Victorian books that I've read, enjoyed, and reviewed on my blog.

It will be shipped via Book Depository so you may enter if they ship to your address. I reserve the right to ship from another bookseller depending on the location of the winner. To enter, please leave a comment including the items below. Remember, you must be a participant of the Victorian Celebration to qualify.
  1. Tell me your favorite Victorian book.
  2. Tell me the book you would select were you to win.
  3. Your email address (to contact you should you win).
The giveaway begins today and will close midnight July 9. I'll randomly select a winner the following day and will notify the winner by email. The winner will have 72 hours to respond or I will select someone else. Happy reading!

  1. Awesome giveaway, I love those Vintage covers! I'm having so much fun with the Victorian Celebration. I'm in the middle of The Return of the Native right now.

    1) I think my two favorite Victorian books are Jane Eyre and David Copperfield.

    2) If I'm picking from the ones above I would say Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but if it's from any of the Vintage Classics editions I would say Gaskell's North and South, only because I've read all five books you listed and I haven't read the Gaskell book yet. I still love them though!

  2. Wow, I love those covers.. Thanks Kristi for this lovely giveaway!

My favorite so far are The Picture of Dorian Gray and the one I'm reading right now, The Old Curiosity Shop from Dickens. I know, I haven't finished it yet, but I have the feeling I'm going to love it :)

If I won, I'd pick The Woman in White, I've been longing to read this, and the cover is very suitable to the story (at least from what I gathered from others' reviews).

  3. The covers are all so beautiful! I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I have to admit that sometimes I do, just a little bit...

My favourite Victorian book at the moment is actually one I read for this event: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. I also liked Great Expectations by Dickens, but I have a bit of a love/hate struggle with him and his pages and pages of description and taking half a book to get started...

If I won, I'd pick The Picture of Dorian Gray, because somebody in my house 'borrowed' my copy years ago, before I got to read it, and I never saw it again.

  4. My favorite Victorian read so far is Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. I'm trying to read Villette but I'm having a hard time with it... I found that its vocabulary strange and unfamiliar, maybe because this time I'm reading it in English instead of the translated version (English isn't my mother language). Wish me luck in finishing it.

My pick if I'd win is The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

  5. My favorite Victorian novel is Middlemarch. If this had been the only book written during the Victorian period, the Victorian period would still have rocked.
I'd pick Villette. It's the only book from the bunch I don't own and long to read.

Oh, and thank you for the awesome giveaway!

  6. I recently fell in love with Bleak House by Charles Dickens. It was so gripping, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough - and I love reading about Victorian London. The vintage covers are so beautiful aren't they (excellent choices by the way); I'd pick Wilkie Collins The Woman in White - I just finished The Moonstone as part of the challenge, and I'm itching to read this one next :) Happy reading! And just in case I'm the lucky winner my email address is katesecondedition [at] gmail [dot] com

  7. *GASP* Beautiful books! Thanks for hosting this! :)

    1. I think my favorite Victorian novel is The Picture of Dorian Gray, because that's one of my favorite books of all-time. I also really loved The Woman in White and Wuthering Heights.. as well as The Mystery of Edwin Drood. And if we're moving internationally, then I might have to change my mind and go with Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or Les Miserables... gah!

    2. I would definitely select Villette! I'm on a kick right now to read through all the Bronte sisters' books - I've read one book from each of the three and just recently got my hands on a copy of Shirley, so adding Villette to my collection would be fortuitous and fantastic!

    Thanks again for the chance!

  8. My favorite Victorian book is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I would select David Copperfield because the only edition I have of that one is a shoddy mass market paperback. Would love to have the lovely edition you're offering!

Thank you so much for the giveaway!
