Literary Giveaway Blog Hop!

Welcome to Kristi Loves Books! I'm an avid reader and have been blogging for almost a year now. I have diverse tastes, but I gravitate toward literary fiction, most often classics.

My giveaway is international, and you qualify if Book Depository has free shipping to your country. The winner will be shipped one book of their choice from the list of some of my favorites below.

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
The Book Thief  by Markus Zusak
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

To enter, just leave a comment with the following information.

1. What is the literary fiction book that you most often recommend?
2. Name the book that you would like to win out of my above listed of favorites.
3. Leave an email address so that I can contact you if you win.

Easy, right? One entry per person, and no hoops to jump through for extra entries. Please no entries after June 29. I will select a winner at random and email the winner by July 1. The winner will have 72 hours to respond to the email, or a new winner will be chosen. Good luck, and enjoy the rest of the hop!

  1. Awesome giveaway, don't enter me though because I own or have read all of the books you've listed! It just shows that we have similar taste.

The literary fiction book I most often recommend is Po-on by the Filipino writer F. Sionil Jose. (I even got four people to read it! A huge success for me: I'm used to having people politely ignore my recommendations.) It is published outside the Philippines with the title Dusk, but don't worry about bad translations. Jose wrote the original in English! =)

If you will forgive some shameless self-promotion in the name of recommending a book I truly love, here is a post I wrote about its main character last year: Character Connection: Eustaquio "Istak" Salvador.

From among your favourites, I'd have to go with Rebecca.

    Thanks for this chance! =)

  5. I'd love the Book Thief!

You've got several of my recommendations in your list and my all-time favourite is not actually fiction (and it's what I'm giving away, once my post goes live in a couple of hours)... But, something I think is quirky and a great reflection of my home, London is Geoff Ryman's 353 - a tale of one tube journey.

  101. Thank you for being apart of the giveaway! (: I'm honestly not sure if I've read any literary fiction books, but after reading a comment on the blog and someone suggesting To Kill a Mockingbird, that brought me back to my high school years and what books we read then. I would probably suggest Catcher in the Rye, if that counts. That was one of the few books I loved in high school because a teenager can easily relate to Holden, with the life situations to the cursing, even. I would probably like to win The Book Thief (:

I make a lot of recommendations, and they usually depend on the tastes of the person I am recommending the book to. 174. The book I recommend the most happens to be "Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen. Especially to my female friends/acquaintances. I believe that author Jane Austen was a feminist, before feminism became a famous movement. Her female protagonists rebel against the norms, and make a niche for themselves in the hearts of male and female readers. Second to that (for those who don't much care for classics), is the recommendation for either "THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS" by Arundhati Roy or "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver.

I'd love for a chance to win/read "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield, since I've read almost all of the others, and it seems like it would be such an interesting book! :)

  179. AARGH. Forgot to add my recommendation. That's 'Maps for Lost Lovers' by Nadeem Aslam. I picked it up a few years ago because it had a promotional quote by David Mitchell on the cover -- became my instant favourite of the year once I'd read it! Aslam is one of my other fav authors ever since. His imagery is just plain gorgeous. :)

  185. What wonderful choices (and so hard to choose from, too!)

My literary recommendation depends on the reader: For younger readers, The Book Thief and The Giver

For young adults (especially females): Jane Eyre

For people who aren't afraid of dark reads: The Road

The list could go on; there are just way too many good books out there, and each reader will have their own take and taste for them.

Because I recently read Drood, I've become interested in Wilkie Collins, so I would have to choose The Woman in White (although I still keep waffling between it, The Remains of the Day, and The Thirteenth Tale).

Thanks so much for the chance to win!
