Literary Blog Hop Giveaway

Welcome to Kristi Loves Books! I'm an avid reader and have been blogging off and on for a little over two years (hoping to be more on going forward). I have diverse tastes, but I gravitate toward literary fiction, most often classics.

My giveaway is international, and you qualify if Book Depository has free shipping to your country. The winner will be shipped one book of their choice from the list below which includes some of my all-time favorites as well as some of my favorite reads this year.

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
Villette by Charlotte Brontë
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

To enter, just leave a comment with the following information.

1. What is the literary fiction book that you most often recommend?
2. Name the book that you would like to win out of my above listed of favorites.
3. An email address so that I can contact you if you win.

Easy, right? One entry per person, and no hoops to jump through for extra entries. Please no entries after October 31. I will select a winner at random and email the winner within 2 days. The winner will have 72 hours to respond to the email, or a new winner will be chosen. Good luck, and enjoy the rest of the hop!

  1. I would love to win a copy of The Perks of being a Wallflower, please pop my name into your hat:-) One of the best books read this year, The Glass Castle, would highly recommend if you have not yet read it. Also currently reading Shades by Marguerite Poland, stunning book so would have to add that one in too. Here's hoping and Happy Hopping! (purplerob2atgmaildotcom)

  8. I mostly recommend a book I've read recently. At this time, I would recommend "Game of Thrones", but that's not really a literary fictional book (or at least I think so). I do really love the stories of Sherlock Holmes, so I always recommend that ones. In this giveaway I would really like to win "Lolita". It has been on my wishlist on The Book Depository for forever! 9. Thanks for joining the hop. What do I recommend? I'm not sure, for classics I choose Dickens, more modern David Mitchell, maybe - The Thousands Autumns of Jacob the Zoet for instance.

I'd love to win We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson because I've heard of it, but not read it.

I have no idea what to recommend really because I usually recommend the newest awesome book I have read. But I loved Eat, Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I am not sure if it counts as literary though.

I would like to win the night circus.

  16. Such a GREAT selection of choices! I find it very difficult to come up with one book I most often recommend, perhaps because I'm cautious with titles I truly love out of fear someone won't like it. To blogging friends I lately recommend Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan very often. It's YA and Fantasy, so might not be defined as Literary Fiction by some, but it is so so good.

You list quite a few books that I'm interested in! I'd love to be entered :) If I were to win, I think I'd choose the Poisonwood Bible as that's a book I've been meaning to read for forever.

Thank you so much for the giveaway!

  22. I always rant over people's ignorance if they haven't even heard of Ernest Hemingway. :) But seriously, I absolutely always recommend his "A Moveable Feast" - one of the most memorable reads of my life. I almost exclusively devote my time to classics, but for some reason, once I saw Night Circus by Morgenstern on your list... I felt an impulse towards it. Strange, since it's the first time I see it. Thank you for the giveaway.

Sorry, I had to delete my previous post because I forgot to include my email address. Here it is: houseofbronze14@gmail.com

  23. Hi Kristi! You have some great books on your list--including the one I probably recommend more than any other, The Remains of the Day by Ishiguro. What a perfect book.

I would love to win any of these, but especially Rebecca as I have it on my classics club list. Thanks for the giveaway!

  24. At the moment I'm recommending 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' left, right and centre - people are mentioning it in our bookshop because of the film so it's a prime opportunity for me to tell them all how great it is! I also push Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History' as often as I can, because it's such a great intelligent page-turner.

I think I'd have to go for 'The Poisonwood Bible' as my choice from the list - I've heard so many wonderful things about it, but we haven't had a copy through the shop yet and I haven't spotted it in any of my local bookshops or charity shops either. Thanks for the chance to remedy my Kingsolver deficiency!

From your list I would choose The Poisonwood Bible. I've been wanting to read it since my first year of university (11 years ago!) and it's on my list for the Around the World in 80 Books Challenge I'm participating in.

  52. The literary fiction works which I have recommended this year include The Little Stranger and The Night Circus, as well as the classic Anna Karenina. My book club went along with all three suggestions, and though not all three were well loved, we did have interesting discussions. We even saw Erin Morgenstern in person as she discussed The Night Circus, and I learned that the Harry Potter film people (whomever those may be) are making The Night Circus into a film. So that's something to look forward to.

As to the books from your list, the very first one catches my interest. I have been seeing a lot about Cloud Atlas, and even the film for that book seems interesting. Although I'll always be a book person before movie. :)

  84. I recommend The Night Circus to people all the time! That is also the one I would like to win because I only read it once, from the library, and would love to own a copy that I can re-read it and can loan it to my friends to read too.
    Thank you!

As for your giveaway, I would love to win a copy of LOLITA or THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER.

    Thanks so much!

  91. Hard to pick a favorite literary classic....there are so many I love. When I was a little girl, my favorite was Robinson Crusoe. Now that I am older though, I think my favorite is between To Kill A Mockingbird and Gone With The Wind. :) Thanks for your giveaway. If I win I "think" I will choose Cloud Atlas as I've never read it. :) It has turned cold where I live, so it would be perfect to curl up by the fireplace with a good "new" book. :) Thanks again.

The literary fiction book I recommend the most is Po-on by F. Sionil Jose. (Sometimes it is published with the title Dusk.) It starts out as the story of one man, soon turns into the saga of his extended family, and ultimately reveals itself to be an epic about an entire nation. It's set during two crucial decades of Philippine history, and every time I recommend it to a non-Filipino, I always worry that he won't like it or will find it hard to follow . . . and I always see that my worry is for naught. Everyone I've ever recommended this to has been very moved by it, and so I suggest it again and again. =)

If my name is drawn, I'd choose We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

    Thank you! =)

  99. From your list, it looks like we share a lot of favourites! But one of the only books on there that I haven't already read and enjoyed is We Have Always Lived In The Castle, and that is already at the top of my wishlist so I'd love the opportunity to win a copy please.

A book that I always end up recommending to others is The Collector by John Fowles. It's dark, creepy and one of the most powerful books I've ever read.
