Two Chunkster Readalongs

I know I've said this before, but it is true--I'm so weak when it comes to readalongs. If I see one from a blogger I know, I just can't resist. It's so fun reading in groups.

The first is the Bleak House Read-a-long hosted by Jenny of Jenny Loves to Read. I haven't read any Dickens this year, and as I'm a big fan of 'ol Charlie, that's a shame. This end of the year effort will rectify that. I have the book on my kindle, but I purchased the Simon Vance narration of it on Audible so that will probably be my, go-to format.

The second is The Count of Monte Cristo Readalong hosted by Estella Society. I received the lovely Penguin Classics edition for my birthday the day before this readalong announcement was posted. It was serendipitous. How could I not join?

I'm hoping to fit in a few other books during this time, but I'd imagine that these two will keep me pretty busy. Also, I've officially decided to give up on my two challenges this year. I don't want to read the books I selected right at this moment, and forcing myself to do so will probably make me hate those books. And who wants to hate books? I certainly don't and they are books that I'm sure to enjoy if I read them when I'm ready.

So, what are your reading plans through the end of the year? Are you joining in any readalongs or reading what suits your mood?

    1. Thanks! I'm sure there will be more chunkster readalongs next year. Hopefully you're enjoying what's keeping you busy.

  3. I've been meaning to read Bleak House for ages, but there's so much I'd like to get to before the end of the year that I hesitate to commit to reading a huge book. Best of luck!

    1. Thanks Ana. I'll probably need the luck. Hopefully the audio will help it from feeling so huge.

  4. I'm SO trying to resist Count of Monte Cristo. I will do it. I can do it. (resist, I mean). It's always hard to say no to a readalong when all my favorite people are participating but I'll take consolation in the fact that you're mostly doing Bleak House, too.

    1. Trish, we'd love to have you join, but if you're busy, don't stress it. I can only manage it because it's my slowest time of year for work. We'll have fun reading Bleak House too! I'm sure next year the readalongs will continue so you won't be missing much. I may try to convince some people to read Don Quixote with me (but not until after tax season). That one has been on my shelf and taunting me for a few years.

    2. If it's after tax season then I'm in. Shining is in February and Melissa (Avid Reader) and I talked about doing Vanity Fair early in the year. I'm not sure I'll ever read a book on my own again! ;) I do hope you enjoy CoMC--I'll be watching alongside with longing.

    3. Oooh, Vanity Fair. I would love that readalong. Even if it's during tax season, I'll still sign-up and do my best to keep up.

    4. Well, Trish and I will just have to read Count together later. And I hope to do Vanity Fair with you!

    1. I'm surprised by how much I like it, and I'm only 60 pages in. Classics usually seem to take a while to engage me, but this one had me right from the start. Glad to hear you loved Count of Monte Cristo. I expect it to be a favorite this year.

    1. Care, I agree, it's a little much to do both at the same time. We'll see if I can manage. I'm a little behind on Count so I'll have to try to spend a little more time on it this weekend.

  7. Wow. I'm impressed! I wish I could do both but, well, I have my limits. Unfortunately. I'm glad you're reading the Count with us too! Good luck!

    1. Heather, if I actually manage to finish both, then you can be impressed. Until then, I'm probably just a little out of my mind. I'm excited for the Count, though. So far so good!

  8. That is really impressive, Kristi! I avoid chunksters generally, but these two are really wonderful ones. Hope you enjoy reading them. Happy reading!

  9. I envy your gumption! These two would kill me. I'm really enjoying The Count, but I don't think I could handle Bleak House at the same time (even though I love Dickens, too). Cheers to you, Kristi! Thanks for joining us at ES!

  10. Yet to participate in a Readalong, perhaps I'll make it one of my goals for 2013.
