Classics Spin #2

Life has been insane lately, and while I hoped to get back to blogging after tax season, it was not meant to be. I'm still reading, but not finding time to write about what I've finished. I have been neglecting the classics lately because of lack of concentration, but after reading The Great Gatsby last week, I've been excited to get to more classics.

Perfect timing in that the Classics Club is hosting another Classics Spin. You list 20 classics from your list and post it. On Monday, May 20, they'll announce the number, and you read the book that corresponds with that number on your list by July 1. As I mentioned above, my concentration is severely lacking right now due to circumstances I can't control (which is driving me batty), so I'm cheating and using (mostly) my list from the last Classics Spin. With the exception of the book I read for it (Islands of the Blue Dolphins), and one to replace The Great Gatsby as I've read it recently.

  1. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
  2. Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë
  3. The Master and the Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
  4. My Antonia by Willa Cather
  5. O Pioneers! by Willa Cather
  6. The Awakening by Kate Chopin
  7. The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins
  8. Howards End by E. M. Forster
  9. Where Angels Fear to Tread by E. M. Forster
  10. The Wind and the Willows by Kenneth Graham
  11. Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy
  12. Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren
  13. Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery
  14. 1984 by George Orwell
  15. Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
  16. Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
  17. The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
  18. The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton
  19. Night by Elie Wiesel
  20. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

  1. So many great books on your list! My spin list is going up on Thursday. I just finished re-reading Importance of Being Earnest, love that play! Also, I love 1, 5, 8, 11, 13 and 18. Some are light, some are dark, but they are all good!

    1. Melissa, I'm excited about so many of these that I honestly don't care which number is picked. I'm excited to see what you've chosen.

  2. Great list! Every time I see other people's Classics Club lists I want to add more books to mine (not that I'll finish it as it is). Good luck with your spin book and I hope life calms down a bit for you soon.

    1. I know! I need to make my list longer. I only selected 50 to start with and there are so many more that should be on there.

Thanks for the wish of good luck. We're waiting on some news this week. Once we know, either way, I think my stress level will decrease dramatically.

  3. Hi. :) If you get Catcher in the Rye, let me know and I'll read it too. I can't believe I've never read it. I LOVE Important of Being Earnest--and after you read it you can watch the fun movie with Collin Firth and Reese Witherspoon!

    1. Trish, even if I don't get Catcher in the Rye, we should still read it together. We could totally do it. It's pretty short. I know I read it in high school and liked it, but have zero recollection of what it's about.

I didn't realize there was a movie of The Importance of Being Earnest with Colin Firth. Excellent. That makes me more eager to read it.

  4. I know what you mean about life! So many times over the last year I kept thinking I was ready to start blogging, and it just wasn't meant to be. The Classics Spin sounds like so much fun and I'm working on my list. I have actually read all but three of the ones on your list, and I liked them all so I think your chances are great for a good read!

    1. Thanks Tanya! I'm pretty lucky in that I work for a small CPA firm and it's only part-time. It's stressful since I work from home, but it could be worse.

I'll have to check out your list. I hope we both end up with something we enjoy!

  6. I used the same list that I used for the first spin as well. I had to take a few out that I'd read but it's basically the same list. I hope we get a good number! :) Good luck!

    1. Jennifer, it made it so much easier to just use the same list, plus, I still haven't read them so might as well. Good luck to you too!

  7. I'm having the same trouble with blogging too. I love your list. Anne of Green Gables was a favorite of mine when I was a girl. Happy reading.

    1. Thanks, Vasilly. I never read Anne of Green Gables when I was young. I'm curious to see whether it holds the same appeal reading it for the first time as an adult.

    1. Andi, I hope you enjoy reading it. I was going to start reading The Awakening on my vacation, but didn't get as much reading in as I'd hoped. I'm hoping I can start it this week.
