Reading Plans for August

I'm a sucker for reading books with others. I just can't seem to stay away. This month there are two events in which I'll be participating. The first is hosted by Andi of Estella's Revenge and Heather of Capricious Reader, and is a North & South Read-a-long. So excited for this one. I bought a Vintage Classics copy of North and South over a year ago and I have yet to crack it open. This is perfect! Click here to join in.

The second even is Austen in August hosted by Adam of Roof Beam Reader. Go and check it out here. She's my favorite author and I've read all of her six major novels at least once (some several more). I'm hoping to read some of her other works as well as re-reading either Persuasion or Northanger Abbey (both if I can fit them in!).

So those are my reading plans for August. I'm sure I sneak a few other titles in as well once my kids go back to school mid-month.

What are your reading plans for August?

  1. I thought about joining in with Austen in August but I'm been in a bit of a reading slump lately, I don't think I could cope with Austen.

    1. True lucybirdbooks, Austen wouldn't be great for a reading slump. While I love her books, they aren't exactly easy or fast reads.

  2. Yay!!! I'm glad you're doing North and South. I'm a sucker for readalongs as well (about 90% of my reading right now is for RALs or book clubs) but it's even more fun when my favorite bloggers are participating. :) speaking of readalongs--have you seen the preview for Cloud Atlas yet? I've watched it a million times and was almost tempted to start reading the book again until I re-read my review and was reminded of Sloosha.

Hope you're doing well--are you across the pond again?

    1. I didn't know about the trailer before, but I just went and watched it. It looks so good! I love Jim Sturgess and Ben Whishaw so I would watch it just for them. :) I never posted on that readalong because I kind of feel bad because I love that book so much and no one else really did. Oh well. I'll get around to sharing my thoughts eventually. If you do read it again, you can totally skip the Adam Ewing and Sloosha parts.

Things are going pretty well. We're still visiting family, though I'm ready to be home sleeping in my own bed. :)

    2. :( I would have loved to see your thoughts. I think that Melissa really liked the book as well. And I wanted to but Sloosha was my downfall. BUT I am considering listening--it's got a great cast and I think Ewing and Sloosha's sections would be better heard than read.

    3. I'll hopefully post on it once my kids go back to school. I'd imagine that listening would be much easier. I really struggle reading dialects. I'm not a fast reader as it is and when dialect slows me way down, it really frustrates me.

  3. Have fun! I am joining the #italong. It's 44+ hours on audio. woot!
And I have two real life book club books to read and I have to get back to my challenges. I'm wondering if I have enough year left to finish my goals and I don't want to read because I 'have to' - we'll see how the slide to December goes! bizzy bizzy.

    1. I haven't heard about the #italong. Who's hosting? That is a long audio book, but you made it through The Stand so I'm sure you'll rock it! I don't think I could handle another Stephen King so soon. Good luck!

    3. That's a pretty funny post from Jill. If they really are going to read it, they're crazy! That picture terrified me enough!
